Downloading videos? Why not try Veoh.

I was just strolling in the internet when I came upon this video site called veoh. Veoh is one of many sites that offer free videos just like youtube. But what is it’s difference? You can download from them through the use of their veoh video downloader. This program, once installed downloads the video that you are currently streaming. The quality of this video is really good (some of which I got is .avi or .wmv - mostly anime series that are of really good quality). I’d recommend you guys to try it out and see for yourself.

Combining FLV files into 1 file.

Yesterday, while I was searching the net, I discovered a neat software on the internet that combines separate flv files into a single file. This software really works great especially after you downloaded an episode off of youtube or somewhere else and would like to re-compile it into a single playable file.

The program is a dos-based runable program (don’t worry I tested it on my computer and it’s virus-free) and it works great. Unlike other applications out there that requires tons of add on features from dotnetfx, this program goes straight to combining 2 files with ease.

To combine 2 flv files, simply follow the instructions indicated within the zip file. Or if you’re still afraid of using it and you’re probably wondering how to use it, the program works like this:

1. unzip the program and it’s dll file in the system32 folder (As I said earlier, it’s guaranteed safe)
2. go to start > run.
3. Once you’re in dos mode, go to the directory where you can find the flv files to combine.
4. Enter the following command line to activate the program:
Flvbind outputfile source1 source2…and so on.
Example:
Flvbind episode1.flv part1.flv part2.flv
5. Wait until the dos prompt resumes, meaning the application successfully combined the files.

I used this program to combine flv files that ranges up to 100mb in total and the output file works great. Believe me, downloading video files will be more fun if you know how to combine your files.

If you are ready to use this program, download it here.

Yahoo! Mail on your mobile phone.

Email is one of the most basic forms of communications nowadays. Email nowadays is vital to everyday living because it contains not only personal messages but also business mails as well. Now, sometimes we would like to access our emails anywhere, as we go before work, during break, when we are not doing anything, or when we’re just going places or meetings and such. Luckily nowadays, mobile technology can help make that happen. Now you can access your email directly from your mobile phone, compose and send messages and even archive them all in the same device.

Now before we begin, this post only shows how to setup mail for Yahoo users only. Why yahoo? Well, this is because I get to use my yahoo-based account everywhere even at work or sometimes for personal messages.

I am assuming that this setup would work on all mobile phone types, since every mobile phone that they manufacture offers the same email functionality wherein you can choose to setup pop-3 or imap accounts. I would like to also see if this really works out for you because we tried it on these handsets (E61, 6300, 7710, K800i) and they all worked perfectly fine.

There are many steps to do this, one is through manual setup and the other is through automatic setup. Nokia users could use the settings wizard program (installed in the phone). SE users would just have to do it manually.

Here are the settings for Yahoo Imap email (or yahoo mail) for Nokia users. Now, please remember to place the following values correctly for it to work.

In connection settings, you would find incoming email and outgoing email.

 Incoming email:

  • user name: (your user name)
  • password: (your password)
  • incoming mail server: imap.mail.yahoo
  • access point in use: (your mobile internet provider in the philippines like SmartGPRS/SmartInternet)
  • mailbox name: (your preferred mailbox name)
  • mailbox type: imap4
  • security ports: off
  • port: default

 Outgoing email:

  • My email address: (your email address)
  • Username: (your user name)
  • Password: (your password)
  • Outgoing mail server: smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
  • Access point in use: (same as in incoming email)

For Sony Ericsson users, go to messaging>email and then create new account, in this case we named it also Yahoomail. After creating a new email account, it will ask you to fill in the following settings:

  •  Connect using: (your mobile internet provider)
  • Email address: (your email address)
  • Connection type: Imap4
  • Incoming server: imap.mail.yahoo
  • user name: (your user name)
  • password: (your password)
  • Outgoing server: smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com

Now, if you could notice, both settings do not differ that far. The incoming/outgoing servers are basically the same for both phone types because it uses both imap4 settings. If you try to test the following settings for your phone, I suggest you have appropriate load to do it (economy load of 30 pesos would do). To test the following settings, just simply go to email, found inside the messaging folder of your phone.

I hope the following settings had helped in properly incorporating your phone with your yahoomail account.

Tech:Hub - reboot

Wow, I finally got done putting this one up. I feared that I wouldn’t put one up afterall because I’m busy and I just have no clue what to post first. But then again, here we are. First of all, thank you for visiting this blog although this one is new, has less contents, and not frequently updated.

I would like to share my deep appreciation to technology, the main reason I put up this technology blog. I would like to impart knowledge to people like me who search the net for information and topics that are tech-related and alike. I am not much of a techie person, I am only interested in technology because of the way it makes lives easier.

In my tech blog I will post some reviews on current devices and gadgets like phones, PC’s, programs and stuff that I personally had a hands-on experience with. To strenthen the detail of each post, I would include pictures so that readers would have an actual view of what I experienced.

Again, I would like to extend my deepest thanks for visiting this blog and have a nice day.
